At Allergy & Asthma Center of Georgetown, our number one priority has always been the health and safety of our patients. We know these are challenging times and we want to reassure you we are here for you when you need us the most. As a leading healthcare provider in our community, we are reaching out to all of our patients regarding the COVID-19 pandemic to let you know the steps we are taking to alleviate any potential concerns. We want to make your visit as safe and comfortable as possible by adhering to the following procedure:
PATIENTS WHO HAVE A COUGH AND/OR SUSPECT FEVER: Please remain in your vehicle and call the front desk at 512-868-6673. We will have a member of the medical staff triage your symptoms and take the most appropriate action to provide you care.
REGULAR PHYSICIAN APPOINTMENTS AND IMMUNOTHERAPY INJECTIONS: If you would prefer to wait in your vehicle until your appointment time, please call the front desk to let us know you have arrived. You may remain in your vehicle and we will call you when your exam room is ready.
ADDITIONAL APPOINTMENT INFORMATION: A member of our nursing staff will take your temperature upon arrival. If your temperature is elevated, you will be asked to return to your vehicle and call us for further instructions.
In an effort to avoid crowding in our waiting room, we ask that you limit guests to only those that are essential to your visit. Please also be mindful of our team and allow for social distancing as much as possible.
We have always and will continue to follow strict cleaning policies for the protection of both our staff and our patients. Each staff member maintains rigorous personal hygiene standards. We use hospital-grade disinfectants across the entire office. These processes have always been of utmost importance in our office and will continue to be the standards we uphold for our community.
Please rest assured that we are following local and national updates daily and will continue to maintain the highest level of safety and patient care that you have come to expect. Sheila M. Amar M.D.

Kim T. Hovanky M.D.
Dr. Sheila M. Amar specializes in adult and pediatric allergy and asthma and is certified by the American Board of Allergy and Immunology. She graduated with honors from Washington University in St. Louis. She received her doctorate degree at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. After completing medical school, she stayed at Baylor College of Medicine where she completed her residency in Internal Medicine. She then completed her Allergy and Immunology fellowship at the prestigious National Jewish Health/University of Colorado Denver program.
Dr. Amar grew up in Waco, Texas where her father, N. J. Amar M.D., is a well-known allergist. She was excited to return to Central Texas and has been practicing at the Allergy & Asthma Center of Georgetown since 2010. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology (FAAAAI) and a Fellow of the American College of Allergy & Immunology (FACAAI). She also serves as the Weather Channel advisor and is Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at Texas A&M Health Science Center.
Dr. Amar has excelled throughout her education and career. She has been named by her peers as Super Doctors® Rising Stars℠ in 2012, 2013, 2014 and Super Doctors® in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023 published in Texas Monthly. She was also selected as Top Doctors in Austin Monthly in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020.
Specializing in adult and pediatric allergy, Dr. Kim Hovanky established the clinic in March 1998 as a board-certified allergist.
Dr. Hovanky is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin. She received her doctorate degree from Texas Tech Health Sciences Center in Lubbock and Amarillo. Dr. Hovanky completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Texas A&M University/Scott & White Hospital and Clinic in Temple. She then completed a fellowship in Allergy and Immunology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Dr. Hovanky has been selected to the Super Doctors® list published in Texas Monthly in 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2012, and 2013. She served the city of Georgetown and its surrounding areas for over 16 years until 2014.
